Bluetooth + Internet
Secure messaging even without a connection
Box Messenger (BM) lets you chat without Internet or cellular coverage using only Bluetooth, and the usual way over the Internet.
Features
One messenger for when you are online and when you are not
If cellular coverage or the Internet often drops where you live or work, your conversations with friends and family will keep going.
How it works
Messages delivered like parcels
Offline messaging works like delivering “boxes”: every phone with the app can pass a box along, while only the sender and the recipient can read what is inside. Two devices do not even need to have ever been connected to each other.
-
Sender
Writes a message, and BM packs it into a sealed box.
-
Other BM users
When phones meet over Bluetooth, they pass the box along without opening it.
-
Recipient
The box reaches its addressee, and only they can read it.
Offline
Without a network, you only need to be within Bluetooth range of other BM users from time to time: in public places or just meeting people.
Online
With the Internet, messages are delivered instantly, like in any other messenger.
Both
Both ways work in one app: BM picks whichever channel is available.

Three steps to your first box
Accept the terms
Read and accept our Terms and conditions and grant the app the permissions it needs.
Start messaging
Use Box Messenger even when cellular data or Wi-Fi is unavailable. And when you are connected to the Internet, messages are delivered through it like in any other messenger.
Which permissions are needed and why
During setup the app asks for a few permissions, all of them required for it to work: Bluetooth, file system and notifications. Their names vary between Android versions, and some may not be requested at all.
The app may ask for “Location” access. This is how Bluetooth works on Android; BM has no access to your actual location.
More details on setting up connections are in the manual in the app’s main menu.
